Sharing Economy in the Industry

During my time as research associate I was responsible for the management and operational implementation of this large research project funded by BMBF (www.projekt-dihp.de) with three chairs and four partner companies.

Summary of the project:

Increasing networking of companies by sharing production capacities makes a significant contribution to reducing costs and capital commitment as well as increasing flexibility, resilience, customer satisfaction and revenue.

The „sharing economy“ is increasingly being applied in the business-to-business environment. Traditional relationships between companies can ideally be mapped using digital platforms, and production capacities can be traded on electronic marketplaces. Additive manufacturing processes are particularly well suited to digital commerce, not least because of their broad range of applications and simple exchange of product and production data.
This project deals with the facets of the sharing economy in industry. Topics such as cross-company collaboration, additive manufacturing, business models, information systems and market mechanisms for capacity trading are highlighted. A hands-on look at a market platform demonstrates its applicability to businesses. The study thus provides a basis for the design of a fully integrated platform for the digital trading of production capacities.
